Larry Litscher

This month, our Volunteer Spotlight shines on Larry Litscher! While Larry has been recognized before, his continued dedication and commitment to Miami Valley Golf make him more than deserving of another moment in the spotlight.

Once again, Larry has earned the distinction of volunteering at more Miami Valley Golf events than anyone else this year! His willingness to give his time, his love for the game, and his unwavering support for our organization have made him a familiar and treasured face at our events.

This recognition is also a little bittersweet. After years of dedication to Miami Valley Golf, Larry will be moving to Columbus to be closer to his family, making this his final year volunteering with us. While we couldn’t be happier for him, we sure are going to miss him!

Over the past few years as the volunteer coordinator, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Larry, and what a joy that has been! He is one of the humblest, most kindhearted people you’ll ever meet, with a genuine love for the game of golf. But if you know Larry, you also know that he has a story for absolutely everything! And chances are, that story will begin with “Back in Iowa…”

Larry has become such a staple of Miami Valley Golf that it’s hard to imagine an event without him.

A Lifetime of Giving Back

For the past 20 years, Larry has been a dedicated volunteer with Miami Valley Golf, serving as a respected rules official and referee for numerous golf tournaments. His love for golf extends beyond officiating; he is also a member of NCR Country Club, where he plays frequently.

Larry’s journey into golf began with a heartwarming story from his youth. He and a group of fellow Iowa farm boys decided to give golf a try, bonding over the sport and creating unforgettable memories. That experience sparked an interest that grew into a lifelong love for the game.

Before his retirement, Larry was a member of Urology Associates of Dayton, where he dedicated his career to helping others and making a positive impact in people’s lives. In retirement, he has continued to give back by volunteering for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) at Wright State University, encouraging a love for sports and fair play among young athletes.

Family, Travel, and Treasured Traditions

Golf and volunteering are only part of what makes Larry’s life so vibrant and fulfilling. He has an insatiable curiosity about history and loves to travel, always seeking opportunities to explore new places and learn about the past.

Larry’s favorite destination is Disney World, which he has been visiting since 1972. An annual spring break tradition with his family began in 1989 and continues to this day, adding new memories with each passing year. Staying at the same hotel brings a sense of nostalgia and a home away from home for everyone.

Throughout life’s journey, Larry has built a large family filled with love and support. He and his beloved wife, Barb, shared 43 years of marriage before she passed away in 2016.

From his time as a golf referee to his commitment to community and family, Larry embodies the spirit of giving back and cherishing the moments that truly matter.
