- Dave Bunker, Canadian amateur and member of the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame, was medalist at the US Senior Open Final Qualifier at Piqua Country Club. The 3-time champion of the Canadian Men’s Mid-Am carded an impressive 5-under-par 67 with 8 birdies, including a birdie-birdie finish.Former PGA Tour professional and winner of the 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship, Ted Purdy, PGA (Tucson, AZ), captured second place with a 4-under-par 68, which included 7 birdies for the day. Peter Samborsky II (a) (Kettering, OH) – a five-time champion of the Miami Valley Metropolitan– claimed the third qualifying position, recording a notable 32 on the back 9. Samborsky made a 20-foot downhill putt on the final hole to finish solo third in the qualifier with a 69. Rounding out the four qualifying positions was amateur Bradley Kay (Arlington Heights, IL) who won a playoff against Jeff Roth and Sam Arnold. Kay birdied holes 1 and 2 to secure the final qualifying position.  The first alternate is Jeff Roth, PGA (Harbor Springs, MI), 1993 PGA Club Professional Champion, and the second alternate is Sam Arnold, PGA (Cincinnati, OH), noted club professional and Wright State alum. Both players finished at 2-under-par along with Bradley Kay. The four qualifiers will head to The Broadmoor East Course in Colorado Springs from June 26-29 to compete in the 45th US Senior Open. Chad Ammer, PGA, assistant professional at Maketewah, finished just one stroke short of the alternate positions, carding a 71 – a strong performance with 5 birdies. Amateur Ryan Reichley, 2012 Miami Valley Metropolitan Champion, recorded even par on the front 9 and finished the qualifier with a 2-over-par 74. Amateur and 3-time Miami Valley Senior Player of the Year, Tim Sorrows, finished at 6-over-par 78 for the day. Bob Sowards, PGA, fresh off of competing in the PGA Championship and before teeing off in this weeks Sr PGA Championship, finished at even par 72.
