With Five Advancing to Shinnecock Hills
- On Monday, June 8, 76 players teed off on a stifling day at Springfield Country Club, hoping to secure one of five positions in the U.S. Open at the end of June hosted by Shinnecock Hills. The field was full of familiar faces, both local players and PGA Tour professionals.Zac_Blair_350x200

The first round concluded with more than a few red numbers on the leaderboard, and round two was no different with a total of 59 rounds under par.

Neal Shipley and Zac Blair both fired 8-under-par for the day to secure their place at the top of the leaderboard and into the U.S. Open. Shipley, a former Ohio State player, made birdie on his last hole of the day to card a final round 65 and tie with Blair. Shipley is all-too familiar with what it takes to be successful at the U.S. Open as the low amateur in 2024. Blair, a PGA Tour professional and six-time Korn Ferry Tour champion, will be competing in his fourth U.S. Open and has qualified out of Springfield Country Club each time.

Rounding out the qualifying positions at 7-under-par was Billy Horschel - an eight-time PGA Tour champion and 2014 FedEx Cup winner, Dylan Wu - a former Korn Ferry Tour standout who has two top-35 finishes in the U.S. Open field and Nick Hardy who will be competing in his sixth U.S. Open with two top-20 finishes in his career.

After play, a 4-for-2 playoff determined the two alternate positions for the championship. Brandt Snedeker, a 10-time PGA Tour winner, is the first alternate and former Ohio State player and current professional, Maxwell Moldovan, is the second alternate.

The 126th U.S. Open is on June 18-21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
