HOW WE BREAK TIES

When ties are broken, in a non playing format, the following procedures are used to determine a winner.

STEP ONE — USGA REGRESSION METHOD

The USGA Regression Method compares the back nine total score (holes 10–18), either gross or net depending on the award.

If a tie remains, scores are compared in the following order:

  • Last 6 holes (holes 13–18)
  • Last 3 holes (holes 16–18)
  • Hole #18

STEP TWO — HOLE 18 BACKWARD

If the USGA Regression Method does not determine a winner, hole-by-hole scores are compared starting with hole #18 and moving backward to hole #1 until a winner is determined.

STEP THREE — TIED FINISH

In the highly unlikely event that a winner cannot be determined using both methods above, a tied finish will be awarded.

NOTES

  • This tie-breaking procedure is used to determine either net or gross results, depending on the award.
  • It is Miami Valley Golf policy to award only one finish position per person/team, with awards having a gross bias.
