Previous Records Broken

- Ben Cors won the 103rd Metropolitan Championship with an impressive 4-day total of 23-under par, breaking last year's record of 19-under par set by Tyler Goecke. A second round score of 62 by Cors also broke the competitive course record at Windy Knoll Golf Club, setting him up for success going into the weekend. Cors recorded 29 birdies over 72 holes with few errors throughout his four rounds.

Scores were close all afternoon, but Cors kept his foot on the pedal, particularly through holes 12 to 16, playing those at 4-under par to claim victory by two shots over Brody Simms. Simms ended with 5 birdies in his final nine holes to finish at 21-under par.

Ian Asch (Wright State University), T.J. Kreusch (University of Dayton), and Luke Metzger (University of Findlay) all tied for third place. Asch played his last 11 holes at 9-under par, carding seven birdies and an eagle down the final stretch to finish with a 29 on the back nine.

Two weather delays made for a long final day on the course. Play was first suspended at 11:36 a.m. for lightning in the area and players resumed their positions on the course at 1:30 p.m. Another weather delay came shortly after at 1:49 p.m., lasting until 4:20 p.m. The final round was not only challenging for players on the course, but also a mental test throughout the afternoon.

For the first time in the Metropolitan's history, Cors' victory earned him an exemption into the U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club on August 11-17. The top three finishers are exempt from local qualifying for the U.S. Amateur next year.

Our sincere thanks to Windy Knoll Golf Club for their hospitality this week. A special thanks to Tom Krietz and his golf staff, Sue Avery and her staff at the Stables, and Superintendent Gary Price along with his turf crew. Despite very difficult weather conditions, the turf crew kept the course in excellent shape for competition play.
