| The Road to the State Golf Championships Begins |
The next two weeks mark the opening stage of that journey: the Sectional Championships. Ohio high school golf features five classifications—Boys Divisions I, II and III, along with Girls Divisions I and II. Within the Southwest District—one of six athletic districts in Ohio—each Sectional Championship will advance its top four teams and qualifying individuals to the District Championships. This fall, all five Southwest District Championships return to Heatherwoode Golf Club. Pipestone Golf Club hosted the events in 2024 and 2025 while Heatherwoode completed a major irrigation project. Advancing will be no easy task. Depending on the division, approximately 20% to 28% of the participating teams will progress from the Sectional to the District level. The path to the State Championship is even narrower, with advancement rates ranging from approximately 6.5% in Boys Division II to just 3.4% in Girls Division II. District competition begins during the final week of September, with Boys Division III on Monday, September 28, followed by Boys Division II, on Tuesday, September 29 and Girls Division II on Wednesday, September 30. The Division I championships will be held the following week, with the Boys competing on Monday, October 5th and Girls competing on Tuesday, October 6. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. each day. All five District Championships will once again be livestreamed on the City of Springboro’s YouTube channel, thanks to the support of the Miami Valley Cable Council. One team certain to draw considerable attention is Archbishop Alter. The Knights captured their fourth consecutive Boys Division II state championship last fall and will attempt to extend their remarkable streak to five. The continued success of high school golf is made possible by the dedication of parents, coaches, schools, golf courses and volunteers who invest countless hours in developing the next generation of players and nurturing their appreciation for this timeless game. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved—and our very best wishes to all the competitors as the road to the State Championships begins! |
