Metropolitan Preview |

The Dayton Amateur, now commonly referred to as the Metropolitan, began in 1919. The 98th playing of the championship is taking place at Yankee Trace Golf Club, using the the Heritage & Legend nines on July 22-25. Yankee Trace will play as a par-72 and will play just over 7000 yards. The format of the championship is 72 holes of Stroke Play, with cuts after 36 holes. The field for the tournament will consist of some of the best amateurs in the area but the champion from 2019 & 2020, Austin Schoonmaker, has turned professional and will not be able to defend his title. The field will consist of past champions Pete Betzold (2015), Pete Samborsky (2011, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2002), and Jeff Scohy (2010). Also, competing this year are Wright State's Nate Arnold, Peyton Houston, and Bryce Haney, as well as University of Dayton's Ryan Clements. Tee Times will be released early next week. The Nipper Campbell designed, Moraine Country Club played as a challenge for the talented amateurs.
It was Indiana University's Drew Salyers who was awarded medalist with a 36-hole score of 138 (-4), followed by his teammate Clay Merchant carding a 36-hole score of 140 (-2). The 3rd qualifying position was awarded to Kevin O'Brien from Findlay, OH who followed with a 36-hole total of 141 (-1). Alternate positions were given to Mason Lenhart and Reid Bedell. RECENT COURSE RECORDS |
Within the last few weeks, Austin Greaser and Bryce Haney have both set or tied course records.
Bryce carded a 7-under 63 on the North Course at NCR CC tying the Course Record during the first round of the Club Championship this past weekend on his way to a victory. Austin carded a 13-under 59 at Springfield Country Club on June 28, See Scorecard. Austin then went on to break another course record on this past Wednesday as he shot a 9-under 62 at a US Amateur Qualifier at Edgewood Country Club in Sissionville, WV. |
