The celebration continues in the Village of Arcanum after the Trojans girls golf team earned a trip to the OHSAA State Championship.

Arcanum finished second in the Girls Division II Southwest District Championship at Heatherwoode Golf Club, posting a team score of 390 to secure the second and final team berth. The achievement marks the Trojans’ first trip to an OHSAA State Golf Championship in 31 years.

Word of the accomplishment spread quickly throughout the community. When the team returned home Wednesday, an Arcanum police car and fire truck were waiting to escort the players back into town.

“There’s so much excitement in the town for our girls,” Head Coach Jesse Warner said. “Even though it’s a small community, there is an extreme amount of pride for our student-athletes. We received so many calls and texts congratulating the girls on their performance. I think some of us are still in shock, to be honest.”

The State berth is the result of a remarkable two-year transformation. Warner entered last season with only one experienced golfer. Six of the program’s seven players had never played the game before. One year later, the roster has grown to 11 golfers—and the Trojans are heading to Ohio’s biggest high school golf stage.

“Our girls are some of the most hardworking kids I’ve been around,” Warner said. “All their hard work has paid off, and I’m incredibly proud of them.”

Warner also credited Assistant Coach Roger McEldowney for helping guide the team during the first half of the season. Warner and his wife welcomed their first child on the opening day of the season, leaving McEldowney to lead the program until Warner could return.

“We wouldn’t have had the success this year without him,” Warner said. “He is such a positive influence on the girls, and he continued to push them to get better until I could return.”

At Districts, Arcanum’s five players finished within eight strokes of one another. Adalyn Paul led the Trojans with a 95, followed by Sadie Waldo with a 96, Brooklynne Eley with a 97, Ella Warren with a 102 and Brynn Byers with a 103.

The Road to State

Arcanum will compete in the OHSAA Girls Division II State Championship on October 11-12 at Firestone Country Club. The Trojans will carry the pride and support of their entire community with them to State.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, families and Village of Arcanum on an unforgettable achievement. Miami Valley Golf will be cheering for the Trojans at State!
