Madeira captured the OHSAA Southwest District Girls Division II Championship, leading a field of 12 teams and 71 golfers at Heatherwoode Golf Club and earning a trip to the State Championship.
Madeira posted a team score of 347 to win the District title, led by junior Ellie Hartung, who finished runner-up individually with a 2-under-par 69. Arcanum secured the second and final team berth with a score of 390. Both teams will represent the Southwest District at the State Championship.
Madeira won the Southwest District championship and advanced to the OHSAA State Championship.
Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy junior Sophia Fink delivered a championship round to remember, firing a 6-under-par 65 to earn medalist honors by four strokes. Her round included the first hole-in-one of her career on Heatherwoode’s par-3 12th hole, providing one of the defining moments of the championship.
Sophia Fink recorded her first career hole-in-one on No. 12 and earned medalist honors with a 6-under-par 65.
Houston junior Delaney White earned the second individual qualifying position with an 81. With no playoff required, Fink and White joined Madeira and Arcanum as the Southwest District’s qualifiers for the State Championship.
The championship began with temperatures in the upper 50s and a noticeable breeze before warming into the upper 70s. A light breeze from the southwest remained through the afternoon as the field navigated the par-71 layout.
Across 71 completed rounds, the field averaged 104.24 on the par-71 course, or 33.24 strokes over par. The players combined for two eagles, 27 birdies and 180 pars, with 358 scores of triple bogey or higher.
The par-4 fifth played as the day’s most difficult hole, averaging 6.37, or 2.37 strokes over par. The par-3 third was the easiest at 4.13, while the closing 18th ranked second-most difficult with a 6.30 average.
The championship’s two eagles came on the par-5 ninth and par-3 12th. Fink accounted for the eagle on No. 12 with her hole-in-one, while the 12th played to a 4.14 scoring average for the field.
Madeira, Arcanum, Sophia Fink and Delaney White will represent the Southwest District at the OHSAA Girls Division II State Championship on October 11-12 at Firestone Country Club.
