Youth on Course Expands to MIami Shores
By Dominic Dastoli, Contributing Writer to Miami Valley Golf Foundation
Junior golfers who live north of Dayton can play more affordable golf while staying closer to home this season. That’s because Miami Shores Golf Course, located in Troy, has added Youth on Course, the nationwide program that allows juniors to play 9-hole rounds for $5 or less at select courses. The addition of Youth on Course at Miami Shores also solves a geographic concern. The previous closest YOC facility for junior golfers living in the Troy area was located more than 30 miles away in Centerville, at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace. Miami Shores becomes the 5th facility in the Miami Valley area to add Youth on Course. In 2020, YOC facilities doubled their participation over the previous year. “We hope it doubles again this year,” said Steve Jurick, the Executive Director of the Miami Valley Golf Association. When Jurick approached Kyler Booher, the Director Golf at Miami Shores, about adding Youth on Course, Booher didn’t hesitate. “Great idea,” he said. “Let’s do it.” Booher saw the value in adding Youth on Course at Miami Shores, which has an extensive junior golf program that draws from two area high schools and includes a PGA Junior League team as well as weekly family nights on Sundays. “Youth on Course helps us reach one of the primary goals of our facility, which is to grow the game through junior golf,” Booher said. “It just made sense on many different levels.”
For Youth on Course to continue to flourish, it needs our golf community’s involvement. For just $40, you can sponsor a junior for an entire season. To play it forward and give, visit mvgf.org. If you have a junior who would like to join, visit youthoncourse.org.
