At Moraine Country Club

Ohio_Womens_Am_3_x_2Ohio's oldest and most prestigious women's amateur championship returns to one of the state's historic golf venues this week as the 103rd Women's Ohio Amateur Championship is contested July 13-17 at Moraine Country Club.

The championship returns to Moraine for the first time since 1932, just a few years after the club opened. Designed by renowned architect Alex "Nipper" Campbell, Moraine, one of Ohio's premier championship venues, hosting numerous state and national championships throughout its distinguished history, including the 1945 PGA Championship, won by Hall of Famer Byron Nelson, the Western Amateur in 2024 and multiple Ohio Amateur Championships.

An 87-player field representing every stage of the amateur game will compete for the coveted title. The championship features competitors ranging in age from 14 to 73 years old, with an average age of approximately 23. Moraine Country Club will play to a par 72 at approximately 6,050 yards.

Only one previous Women's Ohio Amateur champion is in this year's field, Allison Gonring, the 2012 champion at Riveria Country Club.

Several competitors, however, have come tantalizingly close to capturing the title in recent years. Sabrina Coffman, a Cleveland State graduate and the 2025 runner-up, returns looking to finish one step higher after her impressive championship run at Weymouth Country Club last summer. She is joined by 2024 runner-up Cara Heisterkamp, a rising junior at Indiana University, while 2023 runner-up Eleanor Hudepohl and 2009 runner-up Lynn Thompson also return seeking another opportunity to capture Ohio's most prestigious women's amateur title.

The field also includes some of the Women's Ohio State Golf Association's most accomplished champions. Gail Hackett, a multiple Women's Ohio State Senior Amateur Champion, returns alongside Lynn Thompson, whose remarkable résumé includes eight Women's Ohio State Senior Amateur Championships. Their continued success highlights the championship's unique blend of accomplished veterans, collegiate standouts and the state's next generation of elite amateur players.

Southwest Ohio will be well represented throughout the championship. Local players to watch include Ally Turner (Ohio University; Miamisburg HS), Clare Yeazell (University of Toledo; Lakota East HS), Ellie Yeazell (University of Findlay; Lakota East HS), Kylee Heidemann (University of Dayton; Mercy McAuley HS), Lauren Miller (Alter HS; University of Dayton), Leeann Harker (Ashland University; Centerville HS), Morgan Rodgers (Ohio University; Centerville HS), Riley Johnson (University of Dayton; Lebanon HS), and Taylor Dunkle (Bellarmine University; Springboro HS).

Following stroke play qualifying, the Round of 32 begins Wednesday morning, followed by the Round of 16 Wednesday afternoon. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Thursday morning, with the Semifinals Thursday afternoon. The championship concludes Friday with a 36-hole Championship Match to determine the 103rd Women's Ohio Amateur Champion.

The champion will also earn an exemption into the 126th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, to be played August 4-9 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee.

Spectators are welcome throughout the championship, with play beginning each day at 7:30 a.m.
