Reflections from Monday's US Open Final at Springfield CC |
This year's U.S. Open final at Springfield Country Club was perhaps our strongest field ever, the USGA certainly thought so, as we had eight qualifying positions, the most ever. After 36 holes, filled with all sorts of weather and a slight delay for a medical emergency, it took 4 under par to qualify for this weeks 122nd US Open, at Brookline CC in MA.
Back for his 11thappearance was Brian Stuard from Michigan, who had another successful visit over the Donald Ross Links as he qualified for the seventh time. This year he added co medalist for lowest score to his impressive history at this qualifier when he tied with South African, MJ Daffue at 7 under par. Five Players who finished at Three Under Par were left to play for the first and second alternate position which took five extra holes to decide. Nick Hardy’s birdie on the 14thhole captured him the first alternate position and finishing in the second alternate position was Cincinnati native, and three-time PGA Tour Champion, Jim Herman. Once again, Springfield Country Club, the City of Springfield, and all the volunteers did a marvelous job hosting the Final Qualifier that saw an estimated 2,000 spectators throughout the day. VERTICAL THRUST |
Have you ever noticed that many kids have a large jump during their downswing? The reason is because the jump (vertical thrust) is one of the first power sources developed in kids. The vertical jump is also a technique used by some of the most powerful golfers in the world. This has become very apparent in recent years as you see so many golfers leaving the ground during their downswing. Despite vertical thrust power being arguably the greatest source of power it is one that is often neglected by golfers. Learning how to use the ground and adding more vertical thrust can add tremendous power to your golf swing.
