A Community Treasure |
By Contributing Writer - Sean Melia |
The Community Golf Course in Dayton, Ohio is home to two golfers who have been playing golf for more than a combined 100 years. Barb Redenbo, 89, and Ginny Gearhart, 95, have played golf all over the world and made myriad friends along the way.
Similar to most golfers, their stories wind and weave and stop and start. They each learned the game at very different times in their lives but still find joy playing a game they love.
Barb first played golf in 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Barb was 12 years old. “My father decided I needed to learn the game. I was invited to play with his foursome. With the permission of the pro, I could tee off and I was allowed to putt.” For the Complete Story |

Golf Leagues and weekly groups are a popular part of the golf environment as they provide a great way to combine the social and competitive aspects of the game.
There are many different variations of leagues, but the most common leagues we see will typically use both individual and team formats that are based on season long point totals. Occasionally, leagues will use a variety of formats throughout the season that incorporate both single and team based events.
