The Miami Valley Player of the Year Points Race
Player_of_the_Year - As the season heads into its final stretch, the Mid-Amateur and Senior Metropolitan Championships will serve as the last major opportunities for players to secure points in the Miami Valley Player of the Year Race. While these events will determine much in the Mid-Am and Senior divisions, the overall Player of the Year honor appears to be nearly decided.

Overall Player of the Year Race

Incoming University of Dayton freshman TJ Kreusch holds a lead in the overall standings. Kreusch is currently ahead by 100 points over Brody Simms and 220 points over this year’s Metropolitan Champion and his Coach at UD Ben Cors. His strong season has been highlighted by:

  • T-3 finish in the Miami Valley Metropolitan

  • Runner-up in the Ohio Amateur

  • Top-20 finishes in both the U.S. Open Local Qualifying and the U.S. Amateur Local Qualifying

With no Mid-Amateur or Senior player close enough in points to overtake him, Kreusch is in strong position to claim the Player of the Year title.

Mid-Amateur Division

The Mid-Amateur Player of the Year Race remains very much undecided. Heading into the Mid-Am, Paul Day holds a slim lead, but the outcome of this week’s event is expected to play a decisive role. Key contenders include:

  • Paul Day (current leader)

  • Isaak Ramsey

  • Austin Beyers

  • Brandon J. Johnson

This weeks Mid-Am Champion will likely secure enough points to claim the Mid-Amateur Player of the Year honor.

Senior Division

The Senior Player of the Year Race is also set for a dramatic conclusion. Thanks to his qualification for the U.S. Senior Open, Peter Samborsky II enters with an edge over a competitive group. Chasing him in this week’s Senior Metropolitan are:

  • Peter Betzold

  • Ryan Reichley

  • David Clancy

  • Ron Eubel

The results of the Senior Metropolitan will go a long way in determining who emerges as Senior Player of the Year.

Looking Ahead: Ohio Intra-State Team

Beyond Player of the Year honors, performances in the upcoming Mid-Amateur and Senior Metropolitan will also shape the final selections for the prestigious Ohio Intra-State Team, set for early October. The six-player squad is composed of:

  • 2 Mid-Amateurs

  • 2 Seniors

  • 2 Lady Mid-Amateurs

With so much on the line, the next week promises to bring exciting finishes across all divisions.
