Whats Ahead in 2023 |
- As you plan for next year, here are all our golf events and locations for the 2023 Season. Registration will open on January 1st |
Following the Spring Better Ball will be the first Masters Event of 2023 at Dayton Country Club. These events for Men who have reached the age of 50 do not have a lunch but a dinner following the 1pm shotgun start. The first Women’s event will be the Annual Spring Shamble at Troy Country Club on Monday, May 15. This four-person team event features the group taking their collective best drive and then playing their own ball into the hole. The team score is determined by the low two scores on each team. The Shamble does not have a lunch prior but a Banquet after play and includes the awards to the DDWGA Scholarship Recipients for 2023. From Troy we head back to NCR Country Club where the Ohio Amateur Qualifier will be contested on Tuesday, May 30. This year our qualifiers will head to the historic Canterbury Country Club, July 10-14. This Qualifier will also be the first time our great group of tournament volunteers will be on hand to support our game in the Miami Valley.
The following Monday, June 12, we will have our second Masters event for the male over 50 golfers at Walnut Grove and it gets underway with a 1pm shotgun. Dinner is included in the registration fee. After a week off we head to our oldest club in our Association when the Ladies play at Piqua Country Club in the DDWGA Twin Best Ball. A banquet after play wraps up a fun filled day after the 1pm shotgun start. We pick up again after the 4 of July Holiday with the US Women’s Amateur Qualifier back at Walnut Grove on Thursday, July 13. This annual qualifier has seen two of our past qualifiers go on to capture the National Championship. Sophia Schubert who won in 2017, when it was contested at San Diego Country Club and Jensen Castle won in 2021, when it was contested at Westchester Country Club. The following Monday, Moraine CC will host the US Men’s Amateur Qualifier on Monday, July 17. This 36-hole qualifier is a test of both physical stamina and mental fortitude over what can be a very demanding course. While we have not had one of our qualifiers win the US Amateur, Austin Greaser from our area was runner up in 2021.
Following the Metropolitan on Monday, August 14th will be the third Masters Event at Sycamore CC and again this event will be a 1pm shotgun start with a Dinner to follow play. We head from there to the Senior and Mid-Amateur Championship, this year to be hosted at Sugar Valley GC on Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1. This 36-hole Championship has four divisions of gross play. The overall Senior Champion from 2022 was Peter Betzold and Jeff Scohy continued his fine play by winning the Mid-Amateur Championship for the 3rd time and second year in a row.
Keeping with the Team Theme, that Thursday, September 14 will be the 29th playing of the Miami Valley Team Invitational. This 27-hole gross competition has three nine-hole formats with the Fourball, followed by Foursomes and ending with Singles. Sugar Valley GC won for the first time in 2022. Our final Association Event of the Year will be the Celebration. This annual celebration brings all our Golf Community together to celebrate our past years accomplishments. Held Annually at Dayton Country Club the event moves forward a month to September 18. The annual award for the low four-person team honors Dr Phil Hughes a lifelong member at Dayton CC and who led the way and supported Miami Valley Golf in its early years. Around the edges and throughout our event calendar your association will administer college and high school events, conduct seven course ratings, offer countless hours of education, training and support to our Members and Member Clubs and work to ensure our games values can be used to help current and future generations move through their life while using our game as a vehicle for good in supporting our inclusive Miami Valley community. This is all made possible through your membership dollars and contributions to our game’s development programs and all our wonderful volunteers! Thank You for a Great 2022 and we look forward to another great and exciting year in 2023! |
