The 104th Metropolitan Moves to New Dates in 2026

2026_Metro_Promo_3x2The 104th Metropolitan Championship will shift to new dates and days in 2026, while fully retaining its exemption structure. The Champion will continue to earn a direct exemption into the U.S. Amateur Championship to be played in 2026 at Merion Golf Club, maintain exemptions through the 2027 U.S. Amateur Local Qualifier, and will will also continue to receive a direct exemption into the Ohio Amateur Championship.

This decision reflects the evolving landscape of amateur golf. With the expansion of U.S. Amateur exemptions, the field has become younger and more competitive. At the same time, many host facilities have expressed interest in supporting the championship without impacting their highest-demand days. Moving the event earlier gives our Champion more time to prepare and make arrangements for the championship, and positions them closer to peak form for the Ohio Amateur, traditionally held just a few weeks later.

Beavercreek’s History With the Metropolitan

Betzold-ChampionBeavercreek Golf Club last hosted the Metropolitan in 2015, when Pete Betzold secured the title with a four-round total of 286 (-2). He was one of only three players to finish under par that year, along with Brennen Walsh and Jeff Scohy, who both finished at -1.

Scoring trends have shifted dramatically since then. In this year’s Metropolitan, every competitor finished under par, and Ben Cors set a new 72-hole scoring record at 23 under par. With scoring consistently trending lower, it’s likely the winning total in 2026 will be significantly below the -2 posted in 2015.

New Dates for 2026

The 2026 Metropolitan Championship will be contested: Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25

These earlier dates better serve players, host facilities, and the event’s expanding championship pathway, positioning the Metropolitan for continued growth and elevated competition.

Entry Application will be available shortly after the first of the year.
