Districts Start

Sectional play is complete, and the Road to State continues Monday at Heatherwoode Golf Club with the first of five Southwest District Championships. Across 17 sectionals, 1,190 golfers competed and 407 advanced to District play—a 34.2% advancement rate. The District Championships run September 28–30 and October 5–6, with live coverage on the City of Springboro’s YouTube channel. In Passing

We are saddened to learn of the passing of longtime GCSAA and Miami Valley GCSA member Charles “Chuck” Hart. Chuck spent his entire career serving the golf community in the Miami Valley, including more than two decades at Troy Country Club. Throughout his career, he was a respected colleague, mentor and friend who had a lasting influence on many golf course superintendents throughout our area. Chuck was an important part of the Miami Valley golf community, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those whose lives and careers he touched.

Sectionals Conclude

Four boys sectional champions are headed to the Southwest District Championships. In Division I, Springboro won at PipeStone, while Beavercreek posted a 293 to win at National Golf Links. In Division II, Archbishop Alter won by seven strokes at PipeStone, and Arcanum won by four at National Golf Links. Volunteer Spotlight

Mark Griggs is a new Miami Valley Golf volunteer who brings a lifelong passion for the game and a strong desire to give back to the golf community. His love of golf began while playing alongside his father, and today, Cassel Hills Golf Course and Jasper Hills Golf Club are among his favorite places to play.

Mark also volunteers at the LPGA Tour event in Cincinnati, giving him another opportunity to support the game and experience tournament golf firsthand. Professionally, he works at Tyler Technologies and remains active in sports as a soccer official.

Thanks for being involved and we look forward to seeing Mark at events throughout the upcoming years.

A player's ball lies in the general area in an area of temporary water that extends onto the putting green. When the player determines the nearest point of complete relief in the general area from interference for their lie, stance and area of intended swing, the puddle of temporary water on the putting green intervenes between this point and the hole. When taking relief without penalty from the temporary water, the player must:

A. - Place the original ball or another ball in the general area at the point nearest to where the ball lies that is not nearer the hole and avoids interference from the temporary water for the lie of the ball, stance and area of intended swing.
B. - Place the original ball or another ball at the point nearest to where the ball lies that is the general area, not nearer the hole and avoids intervention on the line of play
C. - Drop the original ball or another ball in the general area within one club-length of the nearest point of complete relief as originally determined, not nearer the hole.
D. - Drop the original ball or another ball at the point nearest to where the ball lies that is the general area, not nearer the hole and avoids intervention on the line of play.

It's That Time Again!

As we move into early fall, many courses throughout the Miami Valley will begin aerifying greens. While no golfer looks forward to putting on freshly aerified surfaces, the short-term inconvenience is an important investment in better conditions. Flexible internships range from three to 12 months and provide hands-on experience in championship administration, communications, website management, junior golf and membership services.
