Archbishop Alter captured the OHSAA Southwest District Boys Division II Sectional Championship, leading a field of 13 teams and 65 golfers at PipeStone Golf Club.
Playing in cool, overcast conditions, Alter posted a team score of 310 to earn a seven-stroke victory. Valley View finished second at 317, Oakwood placed third at 327 and Clinton-Massie secured the fourth and final team berth at 328. All four teams advanced to the District Championship.
Alter senior Matthew Kreusch earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73. Wilmington junior Gunnar Martin finished one stroke behind with a 74, while Alter sophomore Teagan Moore and Preble Shawnee junior William Gulley each shot 76.
Martin and Gulley led the four individual qualifiers advancing from non-qualifying teams. They were joined by Carlisle senior Randy Wood, who shot 77, and Carlisle senior Kale Smith, who earned the final individual berth with a 78.
Alter entered the 2026 postseason as the four-time defending Division II state champion and owner of eight OHSAA boys golf state championships. Tuesday’s Sectional victory marked the Knights’ first step toward a fifth consecutive championship and ninth state title overall.
The qualifying teams and individuals will advance to the Boys Division II District Championship on Tuesday, September 29, at Heatherwoode Golf Club. Grounds passes may be purchased through the OHSAA ticketing website.
