- The 30th Miami Valley Team Invitational took place on Thursday, August 29, at Sugar Valley Golf Club under bright skies with little wind and very warm conditions. The competition featured area clubs fielding eight of their best players for a 27-hole stroke play event, showcasing three different formats: Fourball, Foursome, and Singles. For each round, the worst 25% of team scores were dropped to determine the team’s score. NCR took an early lead, finishing the Fourball portion with an impressive 11-under-par team score, led by Brandon Knutson and Jeff Scohy's 5-under 30 on the front nine. In the Foursome format, where one team member drives on even holes and the other on odd, NCR extended their lead by one shot, finishing at 204, seven strokes ahead of Country Club of the North (CCN) at 211. The team from Dayton, featuring Ronnie Stump and Mike Roth, posted the lowest Alternate Shot score of the day with a 33. In the final nine holes, where six of the eight scores counted, the team from Springfield made a strong push with a total score of 221. However, it wasn’t enough to catch NCR, who finished with a total of 427, securing a seven-stroke victory over CCN and Springfield Country Club. This win makes NCR the most successful club in MVTI history, surpassing Greene Country Club, which had won the title seven times in a row from 1996 through 2022. James C. “Skip” Snow, after whom the MVTI trophy was named in 2001, was on hand to present the trophy and also participated in the event. Next year, the Miami Valley Team Invitational will be hosted by Springfield Country Club on Thursday, September 11. |
