|The 28th MVTI|
- The Miami Valley Team Invitational was held at Troy CC on Thursday, September 15th. The MVTI brings together clubs from across the area in this 27 Hole competition which features three different formats with each club being represented by eight players.
After the first format, nine holes of Better Ball Play (Foursomes), the team from Walnut Grove broke two records, the Low Best Ball Score of 28 (-6), made by the team of Jake North and Scott Thompson, and the low total team score which uses the best 3 of 4 team score with a score of 93. Also, in that first nine we had two eagles on Par 4’s. The first occurred when Wes Denny holed his second shot on #18 and the second, when host professional Travis Mumma holed his second shot on #7. After all the scores where counted after the first nine, Walnut Grove only had a one shot lead over NCR who had a Better Ball Scores of 94.
The second nine was Foursomes or Alternate shot in which the two players play one ball, with one player teeing off on the odd numbered holes and the other, on even numbered one. In this format the team from the Country Club of the North brought home the lowest team total of 106 made up of two, 36’s and one 34.
When the first and second nine totals where compiled two teams, NCR and Miami Valley were tied for the lead at 204, but three quarters of the rest of the teams where only within six shots.
The final 9 was played in the form of Singles or Individual Total, where the team score consists of six of the best of eight scores. Another record was tied when the team from Sugar Valley fired a total of 207, tying the record set by Springfield CC from 2008 and clear of the rest of the field by seven shots for that round. Thereby, winning the overall competition and possession of the Snow Trophy until next year’s event. SVGC won by three shots over NCR and four over Walnut Grove.
Congratulations to Sugar Valley for their first title in the MVTI. Members of the victorious team where Andrew Caswell, Charlie Doll, Jake Fryman, Zach Kincade, Cory Miller, Ryan Schulz, Doug Wade & Sam Williams.
