A warm summer day greeted the sectional qualifiers for the 118 US Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Moraine CC on Monday, July 16.  Despite a predicted stormy day, no rain delayed or impacted the days play over the recently renovated firm and fast links.  Patrick Cover, from Cornelius, NC paired the morning low round of 67 with an afternoon round of 69 to win Medalist honors at 136.  The Second Qualifying Position was determined by a three for one playoff between three local players who finished with a two round total of 139.  On the first playoff hole, Austin Sipe chipped in for a birdie from just off the green to grab the second qualifying position. Jake Gilkison then outlasted Nicholas Paxton when he birdied the 4th playoff hole to become the first alternate.

Thanks to Moraine CC, their Members and Staff for hosting the Qualifier, the contestants who played and all the volunteers who handled the scoring, timing and officiating.

The 118th US Amateur will be held at Pebble Beach Golf Links and it's companion course Spyglass Hills, August 13th through 19th.   Good Luck to Patrick and Austin as they chase their dream of wining the US Amateur!
