The 95th Playing of our Area's Amateur Championship teed of Thursday under perfect conditions for golf. In the first round, Nick Paxton took the early lead starting his round with four threes in a row, followed by a two on the fifth hole. That hot start got him to five under a, but he could not hold onto the lead playing the last 12 holes one over par and finishing with a 67.
Our 2010 Champion, Jeff Scohy, ended the first round with the lead after firing a 5 under par 66. Jeff went out in even par 35, before birdieing five holes on the backside and coming home in 31. In the second round, due in large part to Mother Nature, the great scores did not continue. Less humidity and stiffer breezes lead to a much dryer course as the softened effects from the rains from last weekend vanished. Only one player, Bryce Haney, a member of the Wright State Golf Team, played a round under par with a second round 70. First Round Leader Jeff Scohy, fell back into a tie for the lead with a one over par 72, while Nick Paxton moved forward one position with his 71. These two gentlemen along with Zach Crawford, who finished with a two round total of 141, will tee off in today at 1:30pm. The Men's Champion will be crowned after the final round tomorrow. Weekend Tee Times will run between 11:30 and 1:30. Thanks to our friends at Dayton Freight for once again being our partner for the event. With a perfect forecast shaping up for this weekend we encouraged all of you to stop in and follow the golf over the Sugar Valley Links. For More Information Photos Today's Tee Times |
