NCR Hosts Ohio Jr. World Qualifier |
On Monday, June 15, 2009 NCR Country Club hosted the Callaway Junior World Qualifier for the state of Ohio. The course was in great shape and the weather was ideal. Boys and girls ages 11-17 came from all over the state in order for the chance to qualify to play for the National Championship at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. Perhaps the most exciting competition came from our youngest qualifiers, the girls ages 11-12. Playing from the green tees, Carolyn Markley and Danielle Nicholson needed extra holes to determine a winner after each posted a round of 80. In the always dramatic sudden-death playoff format, Danielle emerged victorious. In the next age group of 13-14 years old, Sarah Kolodzik of Bellbrook was medalist with a 78 from the green tees and earned a return trip to the National Championship. Finally, the oldest girl’s ages 15-17 saw Jessie Jordan of Urbana punch her ticket to San Diego with a 78 from the white tees. Continuing the stellar play on the North course was the group of our youngest boys ages 11-12. Playing from the green tees, Andrew Mayhew played a very solid round and managed to post a 70, which was good enough to win. Next, from the white tees our low round of the day was recorded by Jake McBride. His 67 was better than his nearest competitor in the strong 13-14 age bracket by an amazing three shots! Finally, the oldest boys (15-17) had the privilege of playing NCR’s famous South Course. Also in immaculate shape, the South did not yield many low scores. In fact, our medalist was Alex Pietrandrea with a round of 72. This age bracket had the most competitors of any other age bracket competing for a chance to play Torrey Pines. Due to the large turnout, Ben Hogenkamp, Korey Ward, and John Paul King also qualified. |
