Volunteer Scorers and Spotters Needed

The 2019 season marks the 14th year Miami Valley Golf has hosted the US Open Sectional and the 8th year we have used volunteers from our community to assist in scoring, spotting and transportation for the Sectional as well as other Qualifiers and Championships. If you are interested in being a part of the fun there are a few spots remaining.

Special Awards Announced

The Southern Ohio PGA recently recognized their 2019 Special Award Winners. These two fine professionals were recognized from our area.

Rob Karnes, PGA Master Professional and MVGA Trustee, won the Horton Smith Award. This award is designed to recognize a SOPGA member for their outstanding service and contributions in developing and improving educational opportunities for fellow PGA Professionals. Voluntary contributions to National PGA and Section education programs are also considered for this award.

ric Eby, PGA won the Bill Strausbaugh Award. This award is presented to a SOPGA member who has shown outstanding integrity, commitment to mentoring PGA Professionals and has made a significant impact on the careers of PGA Professionals. The award also considers the member’s service to the Association, and involvement in community and charitable activities.

Spring BB Starts eason

When the 112 golfers tee off at Walnut Grove CC on Monday the new rules of golf will be in effect as well as the Local Rule for Stroke and Distance.

Scoring will be live if the team uses our USGA Tournament App.

WSU Raiders advance to NCAA's

It's been 15 years since the Wright State golf team has played in the NCAA Tournament, but 2019 is the year for their return. The Raiders received news Wednesday that they will play in the Pullman, WA regional May 13-15

Ohio Am qualifier at dayton cc

The 113th playing of the Ohio Amateur will take place July 9th-12th at Moraine Country Club. Those interested in qualifying are urged to register soon as qualifying locations are filling quickly. There are six qualifiers around the state, with the closest being at Dayton CC on Tuesday, May 28th. The deadline for entry is May 21st.

Local Rule for Stroke and Distance

Your Association has finalized our Local Rules and Conditions of Competition. Our competitions committee has also decided to adopt the Local Rule for a Ball that is Lost or Out of Bounds (E-5) in all but the following Events.

All USGA Qualifiers
The Metropolitan
The Sr and Mid Am
The MVTI.

This does not prevent you from playing a provisional ball and in most cases it is still wise to do so.

As a Reminder: This local rule is not available to the first ball when you put a provisional ball into play.

Are You posting Your scores ?

You CANNOT post your under the following conditions...

When you play fewer than 7 holes
When you play by yourself
When you play a majority of the holes not in accordance with the principles of the Rules of Golf, however if you play preferred lies (winter rules) those scores shall be posted
When the length of the course is less than 3,000 yards for 18-holes
When types or maximum number of clubs are less than 14, for example, in a competition that allows only irons
When you play on a course with no USGA Course and Slope Rating
When you play with non-conforming clubs or use non-conforming balls
When artificial devices (as defined under Rule 14-3) are used during the execution of a stroke.

We hope this helps your understanding of when scores should be posted!

If you go to post your score and have a problem...It's likely you have not renewed for the 2019 season yet.
