Dayton to Host

The 31st Senior Metropolitan Championship and 14th Mid-Amateur Championship will be contested concurrently this Monday and Tuesday at Dayton Country Club.

New this year, the Senior Metropolitan champion will earn an exemption into Final Qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open.

The field includes several past Senior Metropolitan champions: Brian Bair (2024), Andy Boedecker (2023), Pete Betzold (2018, 2019 and 2022), Curt Cranmer (2021), Bob Jones (2008, 2009 and 2010), Doug Gage (2005), Skip Snow (2001 and 2022)

Past Mid-Amateur champions in the field include defending champion Josh Elliott; five-time champion Jeff Scohy; Pete Samborsky, who won in 2018 and 2019; and 2020 champion Matt Dippold.

Monday’s opening-round tee times begin at 8:00 a.m., when two-time Mid-Amateur champion and five-time Metropolitan champion Pete Samborsky leads off the field. Play continues until 2:30 p.m., when two-time Senior Metropolitan champion Skip Snow tees off first in the final group.

Following the opening round, players will be repaired within their respective divisions based on score, with the highest scores teeing off first. Tuesday’s starting order will begin with the 75-and-older division, followed by the 65–74 division, the Mid-Amateur division and the Senior division.

It's That Time Again!

As we move into late summer, many courses throughout the Miami Valley will begin aerifying greens. While no golfer looks forward to putting on freshly aerified surfaces, the short-term inconvenience is an important investment in better conditions. Aerification relieves soil compaction, improves air and water movement, manages organic matter and promotes healthier turf — all of which contribute to firmer, smoother and more consistent greens over time. College Golf Starts

The fall collegiate golf season begins this weekend as the first two area programs get underway. The University of Dayton women will open their season in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, while the Wright State University men begin their campaign at the Virtues Intercollegiate.

Moraine Wins MVTI

Moraine Country Club captured the 32nd Miami Valley Team Invitational this past Thursday, earning its first victory in the event’s history.

Dayton Country Club hosted the Invitational for the first time since 2004, when Browns Run claimed the title. After the morning Four-Ball competition, Moraine and Sycamore Creek trailed two-time defending champion NCR by four strokes. Moraine then delivered the day’s best Foursomes performance—seven strokes clear of the field—to take a four-stroke lead into Singles.

Moraine extended its advantage during Singles to secure a six-point victory over runner-up Sycamore Creek. NCR finished third, while Walnut Grove and host Dayton Country Club tied for fourth.

A player’s ball comes to rest on the putting green. An area of temporary water intervenes on their line of play. The player properly determines the nearest point of complete relief which happens to be in light rough in the general area. If the player decides to take relief, they must:

A. Determine a new point of complete relief that is on the putting green and place the original ball or another ball on that spot.

B. Drop the original ball or another ball at the nearest point of complete relief (in the rough).

C. Drop the original ball or another ball within one club-length of the nearest point of complete relief (in the rough), no nearer the hole.
