A Conversation
As preparations continue for the Metropolitan Championship at Beavercreek Golf Club, we recently sat down with Superintendent Eric Conley to discuss course conditions, recent improvements, sustainability efforts, and the work his team is doing to prepare for one of the Miami Valley's premier amateur championships. Read below to learn more about Conley's background, Beavercreek's ongoing enhancements, and what players can expect when they arrive for the championship.

U.S. Open Final Review
On Monday, the U.S. Open Final Qualifier - "Golf's Longest Day" - was held at Springfield Country Club. This year, Springfield had five positions in the championship, along with two alternate positions.

Neal Shipley, 2024 low amateur at the U.S. Open, and PGA Tour professional Zac Blair both tied for medalist at 8-under-par. Shipley ended his day with a birdie for a second round 65 and Blair started out his day with a round of 64. For Blair, this marks his fourth time qualifying for the U.S. Open out of Springfield, and his third consecutive year.

Professional and 8-time PGA Tour champion, Billy Horschel, also qualified for the U.S. Open, tying with Dylan Wu and Nick Hardy at 7-under-par. Wu has placed in the top-35 of the U.S. Open twice and Hardy has two top-20 finishes, qualifying out of Springfield six times.

A 4-for-2 playoff between Austin Greaser, Maxwell Moldovan, Brandt Snedeker and Daniel Bennett (a) for the two alternate spots resulted in Brandt Snedeker as the first alternate and Maxwell Moldovan as the second alternate.

The 126th U.S. Open will be held at Shinnecock Hills on June 18-21.

Masters #2 Monday
The second Masters event is Monday at Miami Valley Golf Club. Skins game registration begins at 11:30am followed by a 1:00pm shotgun start with gross and net divisions. The halfway house will be open from 11:30am-5:00pm and dinner will be provided after play.

Led by LPGA Tour Professional Jessica Porvasnik, this hands-on experience on June 29, 2026, at Springfield Country Club (3–5 PM) offers more than just instruction -- it’s a chance to learn directly from someone who’s competed at the highest level and knows what it takes to succeed.

June Volunteer Spotlight
Don Kazyak was introduced to golf in the sixth grade by his grandfather in Connecticut, and would make his first birdie in eighth grade. In high school, Don worked as a caddie and played on his high school team.

After high school, Don began a career in the United States Air Force to serve his country. Don has been married for 52 years and now has seven grandchildren and resides in Centerville with his wife.

Don has volunteered with Miami Valley Golf for seven years and enjoys the aspect of connection that comes with volunteering at events. As someone with a passion for golf, Don sees volunteering as a positive way to give back to the local community and stay involved in the game.

Chris Hayes (Centerville, Ohio) had an albatross on the post-restoration NCR North Course on hole #2. Hayes hit driver, then 4 iron from 215 yards. Congratulations!

The scoring average for the U.S. Open Final Qualifier at Springfield Country Club was a record low of 70.46 - less than half a stroke over par for each round.
