Masters Week Is Here!

For many golf fans, this is the best week of the year. Masters week has arrived, and Augusta National once again takes center stage with the traditions and atmosphere that define the start of major season. Coverage begins with practice rounds Monday through Wednesday on Masters.com, the Masters app, and ESPN+, featuring live streams of featured groups, Amen Corner, and select holes, along with the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday. Tournament coverage expands Thursday and Friday with Amazon Prime streaming from 1–3 PM ET before ESPN takes over, while CBS, for the 71st year, handles the weekend broadcasts beginning around 2 PM ET. As always, Masters.com and the Masters app provide the most complete viewing experience with “every shot, every player” tracking.

The week also features two other premier events at Augusta National. The Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) concludes today on NBC, and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals follow tomorrow on Golf Channel, showcasing the next generation of the game. There are Miami Valley ties in both. Kary Hollenbaugh finished at 144 (even par) with rounds of 73–71, missing the cut by one shot (143 advanced). The New Albany native and Ohio State standout was making her second ANWA appearance after reaching the final round in 2025. She has twice qualified through the Walnut Grove U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier and is the daughter of former Springfield CC Head Professional Paul Hollenbaugh.

On Sunday, 11-year-old Ethan Li of Plain City will compete in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. Li is part of a PGA Junior League team that finished second in the nation last summer alongside Springfield’s Chaz Zitzner, with ties to Springfield Country Club and PGA Professional Jake Houston. For Li, the opportunity is simple: a dream come true. Masters week always delivers, and while this year’s local presence may not match 2024 when Austin Greaser competed, it remains a strong reminder of the Miami Valley’s connection to our great game.

April Volunteer Spotlight
Jim Deuser has been a volunteer with Miami Valley Golf for many years and is a longtime member of Dayton Country Club, where his lifelong passion for the game took root. Introduced to golf by his father at a young age, he developed both a deep respect for the sport and a competitive drive that carried through his career, highlighted by winning the Dayton Country Club Championship in 1975 and back-to-back championships at Paradise Point Golf Club in Sasebo, Japan in 1971 and 1972 while serving in the U.S. Navy. Jim later retired as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves after decades of service and spent 47 years as a financial advisor, including 25 years with Wells Fargo. Today, he remains active through volunteer work, time on the course, and a strong passion for gardening.

Earlier this week, Wright State delivered a strong performance at the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tennessee, finishing second as a team behind host Memphis (+2). The highlight came from Raider Timmy Hollenbeck, who earned individual medalist honors at 5-under par, finishing two shots clear of Memphis standout Yixiang Wang (No. 78 nationally). This victory also saw Timmy named the Horizon Player of the Week. Wright State now turns to hosting the Wright State Invitational presented by Joe’s Landscaping at Heatherwoode next week.

The University of Dayton men’s team finished mid-pack at Memphis, led by TJ Kreusch at +6 over three rounds. The Flyers head to Paducah, Kentucky for the Racer Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.

On the women’s side, Dayton placed ninth at the Georgia State Invitational. Junior Kylee Heidemann led the Flyers, who showed progress throughout the event, including a program-record low round in round two. Dayton returns to action in two weeks at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green.

Wittenberg’s men travel to Prattville, Alabama for the Capital City Classic this Monday and Tuesday, while the Lady Tigers competed at the Stith Invitational in Richmond, Virginia, finishing 13th. Addie Yarbrough was the team’s low individual.
