HS Sectionals Recap Wk1

Seven of the Southwest District’s 17 Sectional Championships were contested this past week, including four in the Miami Valley that featured 57 teams and 286 golfers. Centerville captured the Girls Division I title at Echo Hills, Russia won the Boys Division III championship at Shelby Oaks, Springfield Northwestern claimed the Girls Division II title at WGC, and Badin closed the week by winning the Girls Division I championship at WGC. Individual medalist honors went to Bellbrook’s Alina Shroyer, Russia freshman Oliver Armstrong, Middletown Christian freshman Christina Morris and Lebanon’s Olivia Donovan.

The opening week produced several memorable moments, including Fairlawn’s Garret Maddy birdieing the first playoff hole to earn the final Boys Division III individual berth. At WGC, sisters Olivia and Madeline Donovan finished first and second individually, with Olivia firing a 3-under-par 68 despite making a triple bogey. This week, the Sectional schedule continues with all Boys Division I and Division II events, along with two remaining Boys Division III Sectionals and the final Girls Division II Sectional. Congratulations to everyone advancing to the District Championships, which begin September 28 at Heatherwoode Golf Club. Grounds passes are available through the OHSAA Ticketing Website.

Volunteer Spotlight

Mark Griggs is a new Miami Valley Golf volunteer who brings a lifelong passion for the game and a strong desire to give back to the golf community. His love of golf began while playing alongside his father, and today, Cassel Hills Golf Course and Jasper Hills Golf Club are among his favorite places to play.

Mark also volunteers at the LPGA Tour event in Cincinnati, giving him another opportunity to support the game and experience tournament golf firsthand. Professionally, he works at Tyler Technologies and remains active in sports as a soccer official.

Thanks for being involved and we look forward to seeing Mark at events throughout the upcoming years.

Flexible internships range from three to 12 months and provide hands-on experience in championship administration, communications, website management, junior golf and membership services. College students, graduate students, recent graduates and anyone interested in golf association management are encouraged to apply by November 1.
