U.S. Open Final on Monday!

The road to Shinnecock runs through Springfield CC this Monday, as the club hosts U.S. Open Final Qualifying for the 17th time. Known as "Golf's Longest Day," the 36-hole qualifier will feature 76 players competing for a place in the 126th U.S. Open Championship. The field includes 39 professionals and 37 amateurs representing six countries and 27 states. Among the expected headliners are PGA Tour winners Brandt Snedeker (10 victories), Billy Horschel (8), Tony Finau (6), Taylor Pendrith, Cameron Davis, Robert Streb, Nick Hardy, Zac Blair, and Dylan Wu, along with former Masters and U.S. Open low amateur Neal Shipley.

Ohio storylines will be prominent throughout the day, with local standouts Austin Greaser, Maxwell Moldovan, TJ Kreusch, Andrew Dorn, and AJ Wilhelm competing on familiar turf. Defending Springfield qualifier medalist Grant Haefner returns after earning medalist honors here in 2025, while top amateurs Noah Kent, Jacob Modleski, Finley Bartlett, and Max Herendeen look to continue their rise on the national stage. Springfield Country Club is one of 13 Final Qualifying sites worldwide and one of two Ohio venues hosting the event, continuing a tradition that has made the club one of the nation's premier U.S. Open qualifying destinations.

Ohio Women's Open Week!

Yesterday was the first day of the 2026 Ohio Women’s Open at Heatherwoode stewarded by the Southern Ohio PGA. This year's field includes professional Allie White, Ohio State standout Kary Hollenbaugh, incoming freshman at Duke University, Mia Hammond, and defending champion and 2024 U.S. Women's Amateur champion, Gabby Woods. Three of Miami Valley's own are competing in the field: LPGA professional Marissa Steen and PJ Boatwright Interns - Leeann Harker (Ashland University) and Morgan Rodgers (Ohio University).

10 Advance to Scioto

Last Monday was the U.S. Senior Open Final Qualifier at Miami Valley GC. Five-time PGA Tour Champion, Ben Crane, Tennessee professional Cliff Kresge and West Virginia amateur Jonathan Clark all tied for medalist with a score of 4-under-par 67.

Brandt Jobe fired a 3-under-par 68 and amateur Bradford Kuester carded a 69 to both place in the top-5.

A 6-for-5 playoff determined the final 5 qualifying positions into the championship, Mark Wilson, Rik Cramer (Host Professional), Doug Hanzel, Paul Wackerly and Craig Bowden captured those final qualifying spots. Tom Werkmeister is the first alternate and Sam Arnold is the second alternate.

The 46th U.S. Senior Open Championship will be held at Scioto Country Club on July 2-5.

June Volunteer Spotlight

Don Kazyak was introduced to golf in the sixth grade by his grandfather in Connecticut, and would make his first birdie in eighth grade. In high school, Don worked as a caddie and played on his high school team.

After high school, Don began a career in the United States Air Force to serve his country. Don has been married for 52 years and now has seven grandchildren and resides in Centerville with his wife.

Don has volunteered with Miami Valley Golf for seven years and enjoys the aspect of connection that comes with volunteering at events. As someone with a passion for golf, Don sees volunteering as a positive way to give back to the local community and stay involved in the game.
