Elite Field Set
Miami Valley Golf Club will host one of the strongest U.S. Senior Open Final Qualifying fields in it's history on Monday, June 1, as former PGA TOUR winners, PGA TOUR Champions players, nationally recognized amateurs and top PGA professionals compete for a place in the 2026 U.S. Senior Open Championship. The field includes major names such as Ben Crane, Mark Wilson, Ken Duke, Brandt Jobe, Bob Sowards and numerous accomplished Ohio and regional players, creating what promises to be one of the premier senior golf events in the Midwest this year. Rating Season Kicks Off
Miami Valley Golf’s 2026 course rating season begins Monday at Beavercreek Golf Club with the annual Season Calibration, launching another important year for the association’s Course Rating Team. Using the USGA Course Rating System — the global standard utilized by more than 124 golf associations worldwide — our trained volunteers evaluate courses to ensure accurate course and slope ratings that promote fair and consistent play for golfers of all skill levels. This season, teams will conduct ratings at NCR North, Walnut Grove, Springfield, Shelby Oaks and Prairie Trace. Following the on-site evaluations, ratings will be reviewed by the committee in November and finalized before year’s end, unless circumstances require an expedited review, such as the restoration work at NCR North. Updated ratings will officially take effect March 15.

New Coach
The University of Dayton has named Collin Toner, PGA as its next head men’s golf coach, with Toner set to join the Flyers on June 2 following the retirement of longtime coach Gip Hoagland. Toner arrives at Dayton after serving as an assistant coach at Boise State during the 2025-26 season, where he helped lead the Broncos to two tournament victories and played a key role in recruiting. Prior to Boise State, he spent two seasons with Baylor’s women’s golf program, helping guide the Bears to consecutive NCAA Championship appearances. A Class A PGA Member and Nebraska graduate with a degree in professional golf management, Toner brings a strong background in player development, recruiting and teaching as he takes over the Dayton program.

Hamilton in the Spotlight

Golf has become a central part of Jim's retirement, combining competition, travel and community involvement. A Miami Valley Golf volunteer for the past two years, Jim is also an active member at both Mound Golf Course and Yankee Trace, where he and his partner have won their league twice.

Away from the course, Jim serves as a trustee at his church and enjoys woodworking, Ohio State football, Bengals football and Dayton basketball. He and his wife have also turned their love of golf into a nationwide journey, with a goal of playing in all 50 states. They have already completed 35 and plan to add Washington, Alaska and Hawaii later this year.

Thanks for being our May Volunteer in the Spotlight!
