End of a Era
The Dayton Flyers men’s golf team closed its season with a sixth-place finish at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship, highlighted by top-10 performances from Breckin Taylor and T.J. Kreusch. The week also marked the end of an era, as head coach Gip Hoagland wrapped up his 17th season leading the program. As Dayton golf turns the page, his impact will continue to shape the program well into the future.

1st Scholar Announced
The DDWGA is happy to recognize Vera Cox as a DDWGA Scholarship recipient.

Vera will attend the University of Dayton, where she plans to study Entrepreneurship. She discovered golf just four years ago and has quickly developed into an accomplished player, highlighted by an even-par round at the Lady Bucc Tournament.

She competed on the Greenville Girls High School Golf Team from 2022–2025 and will serve as team captain in 2025. Vera qualified for districts in both 2024 and 2025 and also competed in the SOPGA Junior League. Through golf, she has built patience, confidence, and resilience—qualities that extend beyond the course.

Coach Brad Smith, PGA Member and Director of Instruction at First Cutt, shared, “Vera improved quicker than most of my students because of the focus and drive she has. She is passionate about learning and puts her heart into everything she does.”

Vera will be formally presented her award following the DDWGA Shamble on May 11 at Troy Country Club.

Congratulations Vera !

Winners Announced
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Spring Better Ball and for your flexibility following Monday’s weather cancellation. Due not being able to conclude the event, the format was adjusted with the Gross Division counting holes 9–15 and the Net Division counting holes 18–5. In the Gross Division, Bryce Haney and Brandon Johnson successfully defended their title with a score of 25, while Jeff Stamps and Steve Kreitzer captured the Net Division with a score of 19. All ties were decided using the last-to-first hole method, counting backward from hole 18. The Gross Division skins game recorded no winners, and the pool will be donated to Youth on Course per policy. In the Net Division, Sung Kim earned the only skin with a net 2 on hole #3. We appreciate NCR Country Club and their team for hosting an outstanding event, and remind all participants that gift certificates are valid through October 31, 2026, with full results available on the Event Portal.

Fore Kids
On May 11, Southern Ohio PGA Professionals will gather at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club for the return of the Play Yellow Birdie Bash, the Section’s flagship fundraising event supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. What started in 2021 has grown into a major charitable effort, surpassing $1 million in total giving in 2025 and expanding into year-round impact through initiatives like Smiling Fore Life, which brings golf directly to children in local hospitals. The event challenges teams to play 72 holes in a single day, turning birdies into meaningful contributions that support youth programs, veterans through PGA HOPE, and broader community outreach across Southern Ohio. With strong partnerships and growing momentum, Birdie Bash continues to build on its mission—making a lasting difference for children and families throughout the region.
