Jim Deuser has been a volunteer with Miami Valley Golf for many years and is a longtime member of Dayton Country Club, where his lifelong passion for the game took root. Introduced to golf by his father at a young age, he developed both a deep respect for the sport and a competitive drive that carried through his career, highlighted by winning the Dayton Country Club Championship in 1975 and back-to-back championships at Paradise Point Golf Club in Sasebo, Japan in 1971 and 1972 while serving in the U.S. Navy. Jim later retired as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves after decades of service and spent 47 years as a financial advisor, including 25 years with Wells Fargo. Today, he remains active through volunteer work, time on the course, and a strong passion for gardening.

Cedarville brought its season to a close with a sixth-place finish at the G-MAC Championship at Belterra Golf Club, highlighted by a strong performance from Aiden Hibbard, who moved up to finish third overall. Ian Reed added a tie for 23rd, while DJ Norman finished tied for 28th to round out the top contributors for the Yellow Jackets. Alexander Ritter also competed for Cedarville, with Ethan Ritter contributing in the opening rounds before Huston Ritter stepped in for the final round. Competing in the middle of a deep field, Cedarville showed steady effort across the three-day championship to wrap up its season.

Central State wrapped up its season with a fifth-place finish at the SIAC Championship, held last week at Tunica Resorts in Mississippi. The University of Dayton women’s golf team closed out its season with a third-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship, held April 20–22 at Evermore Resort in Orlando. Freshman Etta Huffman led the Flyers, finishing fifth and earning Co-Most Outstanding Rookie Performer honors, while Emma Sparling (eighth), Christina Pfefferkorn (tied for ninth), Kylee Heidemann (tied for 12th), and Riley Johnson (19th) rounded out Dayton’s lineup. The Flyers showed consistency throughout the event, recording the second-most pars in the field, with Heidemann excelling on par-five holes and Huffman tying for the tournament lead in birdies. Richmond captured the team title, but Dayton’s performance highlighted a strong, competitive group, as head coach Ellie Sipe praised the team’s fight and made a point to celebrate the seniors—Ally Madden, Lilly Middleton, Christina Pfefferkorn, and Emma Sparling, who competed in their final collegiate event and leave a lasting impact on the program.

The University of Dayton men’s golf team is set to tee off in the Atlantic 10 Championship this Monday at Evermore Resort in Orlando, beginning a three-round event that will determine postseason opportunities. With a strong field competing, the championship presents a key chance for both the team and individual players to earn qualification for the NCAA Regionals in mid-May. The Flyers enter the week focused and prepared, looking to put together a complete performance at the right time as they aim to extend their season and compete on the national stage.

The Wittenberg ladies hosted the Pahhni Intercollegiate Invitational at Springfield Country Club and finished fifth in a six-team field, closing out the event on their home course with a competitive showing. Izzy Selby and Addie Yarbrough led the Tigers with tied-for-14th-place finishes, while Anna Sinclair followed with a tie for 19th. Rose Yancey placed 34th, and Josie Adamson rounded out the lineup in 38th. Despite facing a strong group of regional competitors, Wittenberg gained valuable experience ahead of its next challenge, the NCAC Championships, where the Tigers will look to build on this performance.

The Wittenberg Men turned in a strong performance at the Denison Spring Shootout on Sunday, finishing second in a 16-team field at Denison Golf Club in Granville. Competing in a field that featured fewer nationally ranked teams than recent events, the Tigers capitalized with a solid showing, led by Alex Rath, who finished runner-up individually with an even-par performance across both rounds. Griffin Turner added a seventh-place finish, while Mark Sulek placed 13th, and Mikey Schutte and Charlie Parker each tied for 17th to round out the lineup. Wittenberg’s consistent play across the two rounds secured a clear second-place team finish behind Otterbein, as the Tigers continue to build momentum heading into their next event, the Caschera DiCillo Classic.

Wright State opens play today at the Horizon League Championship at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Florida, beginning a three-round tournament as the Raiders pursue their 10th league title and look to defend back-to-back championships. With a lineup of Shane Ochs, Timmy Hollenbeck, Adam Horn, Ian Asch, and CJ Scohy, Wright State enters the week in strong form after recording six top-five finishes this season, including a recent team title at its home invitational. The program has been a consistent force in the Horizon League, finishing first or second in each of the last six championships, and will look to continue that momentum against the conference field on the par-72 layout.
