April Volunteer Spotlight
Jim Deuser has been a volunteer with Miami Valley Golf for many years and is a longtime member of Dayton Country Club, where his lifelong passion for the game took root. Introduced to golf by his father at a young age, he developed both a deep respect for the sport and a competitive drive that carried through his career, highlighted by winning the Dayton Country Club Championship in 1975 and back-to-back championships at Paradise Point Golf Club in Sasebo, Japan in 1971 and 1972 while serving in the U.S. Navy. Jim later retired as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves after decades of service and spent 47 years as a financial advisor, including 25 years with Wells Fargo. Today, he remains active through volunteer work, time on the course, and a strong passion for gardening.

Steen Stumper
Brittany is hitting her second shot on a par 5 and flares her shot towards a red penalty area that runs the entire length of the hole. After looking for about two minutes and being virtually certain her ball is in the penalty area, Brittany decides to speed up play and take lateral relief. Brittany drops another ball into the relief area. Before the three-minute search time would have ended and before Brittany had played her next shot with the dropped ball, her playing partner finds her original ball in the penalty area about 15 yards ahead of where Brittany took relief. How must Brittany proceed?
A. Brittany must play her original ball since it was found before the three-minute search time would have ended and she hasn’t yet made a stroke at the dropped ball.
B. Brittany may choose which ball to play since she has yet to play another stroke.
C. Brittany must play the ball she dropped in taking lateral relief because once the ball was dropped in taking relief, it became the ball in play.
D. Brittany must go back to the previous spot and replay her second shot with no penalty.

Central State is wrapping up its first Tri-Invitational today at Miami Valley Golf Club, hosting Kentucky State and LeMoyne-Owen in the two-day event. The tournament marks a meaningful step for the program, offering a competitive opportunity on a strong local course against familiar conference opponents.

Following the Tri-Invitational, Central State will travel to Richmond for the Earlham College Spring Invitational before shifting its focus to the SIAC Championship, scheduled for April 20–22 at Tunica Resorts in Mississippi. This stretch provides a final opportunity to prepare as the Marauders head into conference play.

To Follow Along

The Wright State Invitational returns to Heatherwoode Golf Club this Sunday and Monday, continuing a long-standing spring tradition for the Raiders. Wright State has performed consistently well in its home event, winning the tournament in each of the past five years, including a 25-under team finish last season. The event typically draws a strong regional field and provides a useful late-season benchmark as teams prepare for conference play.

For Wright State, the Invitational serves as a final tune-up ahead of the Horizon League Championship later this month at Mission Inn Resort in Florida. The Raiders enter postseason play as the defending conference champions and have been among the more consistent programs in the league in recent years. With the championship approaching, this week’s event offers an opportunity to evaluate the lineup and continue building form heading into a critical stretch of the season.
