Volunteer Spotlight
This Month’s Volunteer in the Spotlight is Jeff Jones. Jeff has been a Miami Valley Golf volunteer for several years and is a longtime member of NCR Country Club. His passion for the game began early while caddying and working on the grounds crew at Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield, Ohio during his teenage years and college summers. He retired from Teradata Corporation in 2016 after a global career that often required nearly 160 days of international travel each year. Since retiring, Jeff has fully embraced the game, playing more than 100 rounds annually, including a personal high of 151 rounds in 2024. He and his wife, Gail, have been married for 46 years and have two children. Outside of golf, Jeff enjoys reading, attending University of Dayton basketball games, and following his favorite Cleveland sports teams.

Just Up The Road

We’re sharing a column from our friends at Global Golf Post, written by John Steinbreder, reflecting on the Inverness Club just up I-75 in Toledo and its surprising resurgence as a championship venue. Once one of golf’s great stages—hosting multiple U.S. Opens and PGA Championships—Inverness had faded from the spotlight as many believed it was too short or outdated for modern professional golf, and that Toledo itself lacked the infrastructure to support major events. Through thoughtful restoration that brought the course closer to Donald Ross’s original design, along with years of rebuilding its relationship with the USGA, the club has regained stature and is now slated to host several major USGA championships, including a future U.S. Open—marking a significant comeback for both the club and the region.
