Score Posting Starts Tomorrow!

We’re all familiar with how our Miami Valley weather keeps us guessing. Tomorrow marks the first day of score posting for the 2026 season, our area’s official opening day to post scores played in Southern Ohio. And in true Ohio fashion, the forecast will give us the full experience: Sunday’s high is expected to reach the low 70s, while Tuesday’s forecasted high drops into the high 20s with overnight lows in the teens.

As far as your membership is concerned, those who have not renewed and are outside the private club space will see their records go inactive. Not to worry—you can easily renew by following this link and get right back into the system for the season ahead. The GHIN App will also see a number of updates and enhancements this year that many of us are looking forward to seeing.

So...why does the posting season begins on March 15 rather than a more fluid date. It likely comes down to systems that simply aren’t nimble enough yet to adjust dynamically. Will that change someday? Maybe, technology tends to improve and connect better over time. But is it at the top of the list? Not likely, especially since Mother Nature tends to decide when rounds should or shouldn’t be posted anyway.

If you have questions or need support, reach out to membership@mvgolf.org, our support isn’t AI-automated, so Perry or Steve will get back to you as quickly as possible. If you’d rather call or text, you can do that at 937-294-6842.In some cases, issues may originate at the facility level, and we’re happy to help resolve those as well. Those who pay over the counter maintain their financial relationship directly with their facility unless renewing online, in which case we manage that process for our member clubs.

Need a refresh of the GHIN Mobile App as we start the season? Here is the Apple Store link and here is the Google Play link.

To help keep things fresh in your mind, Perry will also share a weekly Puzzler to help refresh what you may already know.

So thanks for being a golfer and a member of Miami Valley Golf. Here’s to a great season!

To Take the Poll and Know the Answer

Happy 100th Ginny!

Four years ago, Sean Melia wrote a piece for Miami Valley Golf about Ginny Gearhart and Barb Redenbo. As some of you may know, Barb passed away in 2024. This past Monday, however, Ginny celebrated her 100th birthday. Remarkably, the last time she played golf was in the summer of 2024 at age 98. While she’s no longer able to play, she is still doing well and remains a wonderful part of our golf lore.

Spring Weather

Yesterday’s winds were a strong reminder of how quickly conditions can change across our region. With gusts reported up to 60 mph, many courses experienced downed limbs and, in many cases, fallen trees. At this time of year, when very few seasonal workers have returned and the team members we do have are focused on getting courses open and playable, it will take some time for properties to fully clean up and get everything back in order.

A sincere THANK YOU to the superintendents, crews, and staff who are out there dealing with whatever Mother Nature sends our way. Events like this also remind us how important it is to think strategically about the inventory and infrastructure of our golf properties, from tree management to storm preparedness, so our courses remain resilient and ready for the challenges that increasingly come our way.

Steen Sumper
A player’s ball comes to rest in the middle of a cart path in the general area. Under Rule 16.1b (Abnormal Course Conditions, Relief for Ball in General Area), when taking relief from the obstruction, the player must:

A. Drop the original ball rather than a substituted ball.

B. Mark the position of the ball before lifting it from the cart path.

C. Use the longest club other than a putter they have selected for the round and measure the one club-length from the nearest point of complete relief.

D. None of the above are requirements in taking relief from an abnormal course condition.

Last Weeks Question: 184 of you got the Question Incorrect with only 84 getting the Question Correct! (Remember anytime the Ball is in the Teeing Ground it can be teed up)

Ensuring Piqua CC's Legacy

Piqua Country Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, is entering a new chapter rooted in renewal and community. The name Piqua, derived from the Shawnee language, is commonly understood to mean “risen from the ashes”, a meaning that reflects both the club’s 129-year history and its future direction. Founded in 1896 on land once known as Kelly’s Grove, the club has endured fires, economic hardship, and changing times through resilience and commitment.

Under a lease-to-own framework led by Piqua CC’s Executive Committee and Melissa and Dalton Dodd, Piqua Country Club is being restored through proven, hands-on leadership focused on course quality, member experience, and community connection. With successful revitalizations at Jasper Hills and Sugar Valley Golf Clubs as precedent, this effort emphasizes steady improvement, accountability, and Midwest work ethic. Piqua Country Club is not reinventing itself, it is rising again, with purpose.

Just Up The Road

We’re sharing a column from our friends at Global Golf Post, written by John Steinbreder, reflecting on the Inverness Club just up I-75 in Toledo and its surprising resurgence as a championship venue. Once one of golf’s great stages—hosting multiple U.S. Opens and PGA Championships—Inverness had faded from the spotlight as many believed it was too short or outdated for modern professional golf, and that Toledo itself lacked the infrastructure to support major events. Through thoughtful restoration that brought the course closer to Donald Ross’s original design, along with years of rebuilding its relationship with the USGA, the club has regained stature and is now slated to host several major USGA championships, including a future U.S. Open—marking a significant comeback for both the club and the region.
