Four off to the US Open |
- Congratulations to Zac Blair, Beau Hossler, Carson Schaake, and Cameron Davis for successfully qualifying for the upcoming 124th U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (Course No. 2). The last spot was decided in a playoff between 2013 Masters Champion Adam Scott and PGA Tour member Cameron Davis, beginning at the 10th hole. After an intense three-hole playoff, Cameron Davis secured the fourth spot with a tap-in birdie putt on Hole #12. This left Scott as the first alternate, pending any rankings changes next week. During this year's U.S. Open Final at Springfield CC, we witnessed an impressive display of twelve eagles. Two of these eagles were made on holes that are not traditionally par 5s - Holes #1 and #15. To relive some of the best shots from the playoff holes, you can check out our Twitter feed. From a statistical perspective, it is interesting to note that the most challenging hole was hole #13, a 178-yard par 3 with a back right pin location, which averaged almost half a shot over par. However, the shorter par fives typically proved easier, as the downhill hole #5 played at just 0.34 over birdie, with an average score of 4.34. Over the course of both rounds, the scoring average was 70.7, which was only .7 strokes above the Par 70 adjusted layout. Usually, the course plays at par 72 for member play. The afternoon round had a slightly easier average score of 70.5, while the morning round averaged 70.9. The difference in the average score for the morning round can be attributed to the fog that delayed the play for 1 hour and 45 minutes. We extend our gratitude to the Members and Staff at Springfield CC for hosting the event and to all the wonderful volunteers who assisted with scoring, fore caddying, and other crucial tasks. Best of luck to our Qualifiers, and we eagerly anticipate following their performances in the 124th US Open next week. |
