After Round 1 |
- Despite a sore left shoulder, Conner Lash, the Wright State Head Golf Coach and Miami Valley Golf Staffer, leads after round one of the 102nd Metropolitan Championship at Miami Valley Golf Club. Conner made seven birdies through hole 15 before bogeying holes 16 and 17, finishing with a 5-under-par round of 65. In second place is this year’s NCAA DI Runner-Up, Tyler Goecke, who completed an unblemished scorecard with four birdies and no bogeys in his opening round of 67. Five players, Brandon J. Johnson, Ian Asch, Alie Berker, Aiden Wilhelm, and 2021 Champ, Bryce Haney came in at 2 under par for the first round, which saw an even dozen players break par. The hardest hole was the par-four 9th, with a +0.73 scoring average from the field. The hole yielded only two birdies from the 81-person field. The easiest hole was the opening par-5, hole 1, which saw an average score just under par at 4.95. The average score for the day was 76.95. After Friday’s round, the top 32 players and ties will qualify for weekend play, with the 32nd position currently at 3 over par. Play starts tomorrow at 7:30 a.m., with the final group of Conner Lash, Tyler Goecke, and Brandon J. Johnson teeing off at 12:16 p.m. A moment of reflection was held just before the last tee time of past champions to honor Bob Eardley, our 1999 Metropolitan Champion, who passed away suddenly this off-season. Bob was also listed on top of the leaderboard throughout morning play until all the groups had teed off. For More About Bob Today’s round has been posted to the players’ handicap
