For 3rd Year in a Row

IMG_4181- The Alter High School boys golf team secured its third consecutive Division II state championship on Monday at Firestone Country Club in Akron. After posting a team score of 308 in the first round, Alter responded with an impressive 290 in the second round, finishing with a total score of 598. “It means a lot to us,” senior TJ Kreusch said in an interview shared by Believeland Media on YouTube, “especially to us seniors and captains, going out with a win.” Alter came close to matching last year’s record-setting score of 596, which helped them win their second straight title. Their championship run began in 2022 with a dominant 16-stroke victory at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.

Despite holding just a one-stroke lead over Ottawa Hills after the first round, Alter extended that margin significantly in the second round, ultimately winning by 25 strokes. “It’s surreal really,” coach Alex Schuster told Believeland Media. “To be able to come out today and play the way we did is beyond any expectations I could have had. We just came out today and played a great round of golf. All the kids were locked in.” Schuster noted that the team battled through cold, windy conditions and persistent rain, expecting a final-round score closer to 310. Alter sophomore Matthew Kreusch shot 75-66—140 to tie for medalist honors, becoming the team’s first individual state champion since 2022.
