Despite holding just a one-stroke lead over Ottawa Hills after the first round, Alter extended that margin significantly in the second round, ultimately winning by 25 strokes. “It’s surreal really,” coach Alex Schuster told Believeland Media. “To be able to come out today and play the way we did is beyond any expectations I could have had. We just came out today and played a great round of golf. All the kids were locked in.” Schuster noted that the team battled through cold, windy conditions and persistent rain, expecting a final-round score closer to 310. Alter sophomore Matthew Kreusch shot 75-66—140 to tie for medalist honors, becoming the team’s first individual state champion since 2022. |
