|Dayton, OH –– The Miami Valley Golf each calendar year offers P.J. Boatwright golf administration internships. These paid internships can run from three to twelve months depending upon a candidate's availability and funding grants from the USGA. In order to be considered for an internship position, prospective applicants must be enrolled at a college or university, be a graduate student, a recent college graduate or someone just interested in Golf Association Management. A background or major in golf management, journalism, communications, or photo journalism would be an asset but is not necessary for these positions. A strong interest and knowledge of the game of golf is also a plus. |
The responsibilities of the intern positions entail championship administration, database management, website maintenance, junior golf and membership activities. In addition, the selected interns will also assist the staff with general administration.
The internships are named in honor of P.J. Boatwright Jr., the past United States Golf Association Executive Director of Rules and Competitions. Each year, the USGA perpetuates a memorial tribute to P.J. Boatwright through the funding of internship programs for regional golf associations throughout the country. The program is designed to benefit junior golf, public golf and championship administration and Miami Valley Golf has received a grant every year since 1996.
The MVGA has grown from eight clubs since its inception to more than 45 today. In addition, the MVGA’s membership numbers more than 7,000. The MVGA promotes and conserves the best interests of the game as embodied in its honorable traditions through its championships, handicap program, course rating system, rules education, communications, VIP and scholarship programs as well as many other services.
