On to the State Championships |
- This past week saw the larger High Schools in the
Southwest District compete in both the Girls and Boys D1 Division. The top
three teams and three individuals not on qualifying teams in each gender
qualify for the State Championships at OSU Golf Club next Friday and Saturday. In the Girls D1 Division which played this past Wednesday
at Heatherwoode Golf Club, the host Team from Springboro High School Captured
the third position, narrowly over the team from Ursuline Academy by one
shot. In second place was the team from
Sycamore High School from Montgomery and bringing home the first-place position
and going to state for the eighth straight year was Centerville High School. The Three Golfers not on Qualifying Teams where Kylee
Heidemann from Mercy McAuley with a score of 74. Clare Yeazell from Lakota East
and Ally Turner from Miamisburg each firing a 75 to grab the last spots from
the SW District. Our Field Medalist from Springboro was Taylor Dunkle who
fired an even par 71 and our co runner ups where Caroline Thompson from Sycamore
and Morgan Rogers from Centerville each firing a 72. The D1 Girls will play on the Gray Course at OSU next
week. |
The final District that Heatherwoode hosted was for the
Boys DI this past Thursday on what turned out to be the breeziest and coolest
day of all the Districts with the wind gusting at over 30 mph. Couple that, with a hard fast golf course
and much cooler temperatures and it turned out to be more of a day for survival
than taking it low. Winning the team title and likely a strong favorite to
win the State Title next week on the Scarlet Course at OSU, was Mason High
School followed by the team from St. Xavier and taking the 3rd spot was the
host team from Springboro HS. Taking the third individual position from Kings High School was Garrett Hogan who fired a 74, the 2nd Individual was Jake Wittenauer from Little Miami Valley HS and earning the Medalist Honors with the only under par round of all the District Championships was CJ Scohy from Bellbrook HS with a 70 |
