Youth on Course Expands to Miami Shores |
Junior golfers who live north of Dayton can play more affordable golf while staying closer to home this season.
That’s because Miami Shores Golf Course, located in Troy, has added Youth on Course, the nationwide program that allows juniors to play 9-hole rounds for $5 or less at select courses. The addition of Youth on Course at Miami Shores also solves a geographic concern. The previous closest YOC facility for junior golfers living in the Troy area was located more than 30 miles away in Centerville, at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace. To Read Complete Article |
Oscar 'Ock' Willoweit |
From our Area's Past |
Oscar Gustavus "Ock" Willoweit always referred to himself as The Dutchman. His friends, poking fun at his penchant for talking too much, called him The Silent Dutchman. It was a name that was never appropriate until a Sunday in 1988, when one of Dayton's best known golf professionals, died on a Sunday afternoon, after a two-year illness. He was 85.
“He was the most generous person I ever met” said former Daytonian Bob Rickey, whose father hired Willoweit for the MacGregor Golf Co. In 1928. "He made a lot of money and he gave everything away. He spent nothing on himself. He was a beautiful guy." To Read the Rest of the Biography and Listen to a Bucky's Bunker Podcast |

IS YOUR mvga/ghin membership inactive? |
To correspond with the ending of the off season and the beginning of the new golf season our MVGA/GHIN Membership 2020 season closed on Sunday, March 14 and the 2021 season began on Monday, March 15. Just what does that mean? If you play at a public facility or are a member of a non real estate club like "eClub" and have not already renewed for the upcoming season your account was placed into an "Inactive Status". To change this status all you need to do is renew at the facility either online or in person. If you are a member at a Private Facility the staff manages this for you, therefore, no action is needed.
