Masters Contest Won By Bill York |
Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama in winning the 2021 Masters and Bill York for winning the 18th Annual MVGA Masters Contest presented by our Friends at Mercedes Benz of Centerville. Bill's score of 17 was enough to win the Contest. Bill's winning selections included Jordan Spieth, Cameron Smith, Michael Thompson, and Will Zalatoris. 2nd Place belonged to Matthew Shin with a score of 14. 3rd Place saw a 3-way tie among Gregg Holtkamp, Ron Bryant, and Dan Sutherly with a score of 13. Bryant won the 1st Tie-Breaker by guessing closest to the winning score of -10. Among all the submissions, no one correctly predicted Hideki Matsuyama as the Champion, a 46/1 odds Champion pre-tournament. Thanks to all of you who made selections, Alex Huang for managing the contest and our Friends at Mercedes Benz of Centerville. Those making selections received their individual results Sunday Evening from MiamiValleyGolf@gmail.com |

teaching an Old Dog a New Trick |
Have you ever stood over a golf ball with full confidence only to hit a terrible shot and just wonder how in the world you just did that? Have you ever wondered why you need to keep working on the same swing drills over and over? The answer is in how our brain learns skills.
There are 2 types of skills, motor and cognitive. Motor skills are like riding a bike or swinging a golf club. Cognitive skills are like learning a new language or mathematics. Our brain stores these skills in 2 completely different ways. For example, if you learned how to ride a bike when you were 10 years old and then didn’t ride a bike for 30 years, you would be able to get back on that bike pretty quickly and get comfortable riding around. Now if you learned how to speak French when you were 10 and then didn’t speak the language for 30 years, you are going to realize very quickly that you remember very little if you traveled to France. Motor skills are very difficult, almost impossible, to forget. For More |

IS YOUR mvga/ghin membership inactive? |
To correspond with the ending of the off season and the beginning of the new golf season our MVGA/GHIN Membership 2020 season closed on Sunday, March 14 and the 2021 season began on Monday, March 15. Just what does that mean? If you play at a public facility or are a member of a non real estate club like "eClub" and have not already renewed for the upcoming season your account was placed into an "Inactive Status". To change this status all you need to do is renew at the facility either online or in person. If you are a member at a Private Facility the staff manages this for you, therefore, no action is needed.
