2019 & 2020 Metropolitan Champ Wins |
Austin Schoonmaker, a senior at Wright State University and our defending and two time Metropolitan Champion, came from three shots back in the final round to overtake the 36-hole leader Cameron Bonner of the University of West Florida. Austin erased the lead early in the round and at one point got to five under for the round before finishing up with a 4-under 68. His winning score was at 3-under 213.
If this would have been a team championship, Wright State would have won, as Tyler Goecke, Mikkel Mathiesen & Cole Corder all finished in the top 7.

who's in this photo? |
25 Years Ago, the MVGA conducted our first Metropolitan Championship, picking up the leadership of our area's amateur championship that began way back in 1919.
As we prepare to celebrate our stewardship's Silver Anniversary we will return to The Golf Club at Yankee Trace where it all begun, July 22nd through 25th.
To look back on that First Metropolitan, try and name all the people in this photo from the 1st Group. If you think you have them, send an email to info@mvgolf.org

About the Banner - MVGA Past President, Dr. Phil Hughes our Second President, shakes hands prior to his teeing off in the 1st Metropolitan. The Handshake plays a significate role in the decorum of our game. This is why it is prominently featured in our Logo. We all look forward to resuming this tradition! - To See the Full Photo |
