Burritt and Schoonmaker Repeat |
Congratulations to Austin Schoonmaker and Alyssa Burritt who both defended their Amateur Championships last weekend.
Alyssa again showed here dominance with rounds of 72-73-72 for a one over par total of 217 over the nearly 6000 yard golf course. Over on the Men's Side, through three rounds the dominate player was Cameron Willis who took a two shot lead going into the final round with scores of 66-66-69 over the Defending Champion, Austin Schoonmaker. In Sunday's Final Round, Austin started hot and went out in 4 under, 32. He capped that nine, with a Eagle on the Par 5, 8th to take a one shot lead into the back side. Austin cooled off a bit and Cameron drew the battle for the 98th Championship even with his Birdie on #15. Austin then Birdied on #16 taking the lead back and when Cameron, needing to make birdie on #18, ran his birdie attempt pass the hole Austin ended up with a two shot victory. The play was strong all week as the field set a record for most players under par for the Championship at 9, and lowest cut in relation to par at 6 over par Thanks to our host club, Piqua Country Club, it's Members and Staff for their wonderful hospitality and all our Volunteers and Staff that helped make this championship so memorable and finally to all those who participated in the Championship! CONTEST FOR THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP |

The Metro Contest was so successful we decided to add another one for the PGA Championship. Winner gets 6 Dz Personalized Golf Balls of their choosing. Here is how it works - Make one selection from each group. The best final score in each match-up wins. Ties within a group will both win points (eg if Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm both finish at -12, then either selection would be awarded its corresponding points). Tie-breaker answers will only be used in the event of an overall tie. Tie-breakers will be used in the numerical order they're listed below, and graded by the closest guesses.
Players who complete all rounds automatically win against a DQ or WD. If both players MC, the player with the better two-round total wins.
Form must be submitted by 6AM ET Thursday! Limit one entry per person.

Opposite Side Training |
One of the most common mistakes I see golfers make with their fitness programs is trying to be too “golf specific” and replicate the golf swing with their exercises. Most of the exercises to increase power and speed have nothing to do with a swinging motion. In fact, when we do include rotary/swinging movements we actually train in the opposite direction more frequently. For More Detail |

HELP THE MIAMI VALLEY CHAPTER OF THE FIRST TEE |
The Miami Valley First Tee Chapter is attempting to continue operations throughout the summer, autumn and winter without the aid of necessary revenue coming from June & July lesson programs. This hardship coupled with the closing of City of Dayton golf facilities has prompted our fund raising team to find new means of funding sponsorships. The Bourbon Raffle is our latest Post Covid-19 effort to save our 2020 programs.
Please link in to the raffle website and help their efforts. |
A NOTE ON OUR YOUTH ON COURSE PROGRAM |
One of our core beliefs at Miami Valley Golf is believing that every child deserves access to the life changing opportunities that our game can provide regardless of socioeconomic status. With that in mind, in 2018, we teamed up with Youth on Course to bring this national program to our Miami Valley area. Youth on Course members can play at participating courses for $5 or less during allotted times, after paying a small membership fee which is also $5. Our foundation (Miami Valley Golf Foundation) supports this program locally by supplementing the difference in green fees to the participating facility. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will need additional assistance as some of our opportunity for fund raising will not be available. If possible, we encourage you to support this program. An easy online contribution can be made here.

Score Posting Questions |
Send Additional Questions to info@mvgolf.org |
Q: If I don't hole out in the "Traditional Sense" do I still post my score ? |
A: Yes,While in all of these instances, the ball is not holed per the Rules of Golf (Rule 3.3c), a round played under these conditions will result in an acceptable score for handicap purposes using the most likely score guidelines (see Rule 3.3 of the Rules of Handicapping). |
Q: How can I post my score if the clubhouse is closed ? |
A: Given the current concerns of spreading the Coronavirus, we are recommending that you use the USGA-GHIN Mobile Appor post through our siteor ghin.com. This is also a good recommendation moving forward and we will likely begin phasing out our Scoring Kiosks wherever possible to avoid future contaminations. |
Q: I can't post a score as it says I'm inactive and I can't go into the Golf Shop to renew. |
A: You can renew at almost all of our Public Access Facilities by following this link and selecting where you play the most golf |
when to NOT post your scores |
March 15th signaled the start of the New Score Posting Season in the Miami Valley. Here are a few things to remember when it comes to NOTposting your score. All other times you should!
So, don't post your score....
- When your score can’t be verified by another person
- While being coached on the course
- When you play using non-conforming clubs, non-conforming balls, or non-conforming tees;
- When you don't play the required number of holes, Less than 6 for 9, less than 14 for 18. For the holes you haven’t played, you post net par for the hole.
- And when you are not playing your own ball — scrambles, shambles or foursomes (alternate shot).
And remember...A key tenet of the World Handicap System is that it is based on the fact that a you will try to make the best score at every hole in every round. So you post just about everything and that includes scores when you play Preferred Lies or adapting to modified Holes due to the Coronavirus ! |
