| Brandon Johnson – Serving, Competing, and Growing the Game |
Growing the Game: Doubles Golf Before anything else, Brandon is a builder of opportunity. For several years, he has organized 2-Man Scrambles throughout the Miami Valley, creating inclusive and welcoming events that give players of all skill levels a chance to enjoy competition and connection. In 2025, he took that experience to the next level by rolling his long-running program into the Doubles Golf framework — a new national format designed to connect local players to a broader league system, similar to the successful model used by Golf Canada. While its first year of widespread use came with some growing pains, Brandon’s steady leadership helped lay the foundation for what’s becoming a vibrant addition to our local golf landscape. The Doubles Golf format, which features four separate divisions — Open, Mixed, Senior, and Women — provides a relaxed, social, and non-intimidating environment where golfers of all abilities can play. More importantly, it’s helping attract new players who might not have entered the game otherwise, particularly through the nine-hole social format. By emphasizing fun and teamwork, Doubles Golf has become a powerful bridge between recreation and competition, extending golf’s reach to a wider community. Under Brandon’s direction, the Doubles Golf – Miami Valley Series hosted seven weekend events across six facilities in 2025, concluding this Sunday at the Country Club of the North. His commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable model has helped turn this concept into a meaningful reality for our region. A Veteran Turned Golf Leader Brandon’s service to the game reflects his service to others. A graduate of the PGA HOPE program at Yankee Trace he’s a living example of how golf can change lives. After experiencing the program firsthand, he stepped forward to help others — first as a Chapter Captain, and now as the Southern Ohio PGA’s newest PGA HOPE Ambassador. Southern Ohio PGA Executive Director Patrick Salva summed it up best: “Brandon Johnson has a passion for the game of golf and for his community, including those he served with, like nobody I have met before. Like his predecessors, I believe Brandon will make our programs significantly better because of his involvement in PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week as well as serving as our Ambassador in Southern Ohio.”
Long before his leadership roles, Brandon established himself as a strong amateur competitor. He has represented the U.S. Air Force in multiple tournaments and earned his place in the region’s most competitive events. His playing highlights include qualifying for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in 2017 and 2021, and winning the Veteran Golf Association Championships in 2016 and 2018. His mindset and service to the game make him one of the most respected players in the Miami Valley. Life Built Around Teamwork Now balancing the responsibilities of a new dad, Brandon continues to approach everything with humility and purpose. Whether he’s organizing weekend events, mentoring veterans, or preparing for his ambassador role, his efforts always center on teamwork, growth, and gratitude. Through his leadership, both on and off the course, he’s helping others see golf not just as a game — but as a way to connect, recover, and thrive. A True Gem in our Community Brandon Johnson’s story is one of service, leadership, and genuine love for the game. He reminds us that golf is at its best when it brings people together — across backgrounds, generations, and abilities. |
