|2013 MVGCSA Scholarship Event|
|Sycamore Creek Country Club was host to our biennial Scholarship Event on Monday, June 24th.
Although the weather forecast tried to scare the golf out of the event,
the rain held off, and 56 players headed out to compete in a scramble
format. The golf course, managed by
Brian Burke, was in outstanding shape, and many compliments came his way following
the scramble. Team Mowat, Papania,
Austin, and Brown once again came out on top by shooting 58 on the par 72 golf
course. The skins game only yielded one
skin to team White, Dorrell, Groth, and Hogenkamp as they made an eagle on the
par-five fourth hole. Every other hole
was tied with a birdie. Here is a list
of some of the proximity winners:|
Hole 3, Closest to the Hole: Gary Walter
Hole 5, Closest to the Hole: Chad Dorrell
Hole 11, Closest to the Hole: Steve Haushalter
Hole 18, Longest Putt Made: Eric Wilcox
Gary’s shot on three won him free use of a Bob Ross Auto vehicle for a weekend.
Following the golf, the partners sat down for hors d’oeuvres, the scholarship presentation, and the item auction. Our scholarship award winner for the year was William Jones who rightfully claimed his thousand-dollar check that will go towards his turfgrass education at the Ohio State University. William has aspirations of taking his career down south where he hopes to gain more experience and become an assistant or superintendent. The auction had a great deal of items and ranged from pesticides all the way to a greens mower. Although a few items were passed on, many went out at great prices to our local superintendents.
We would like to thank our members of the association who participated in the event, our sponsors, our auction item donors, and of course Sycamore Creek Country Club for letting us host another exceptional event.
