U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Moraine Country Club |
No rain in the forecast was a pleasant change of pace, but morning and afternoon waves teeing off both sides made for brutally hot conditions in the afternoon. Of the 149 players in the field, 15 players qualified for the final stage of the U.S. Amateur with scores of even par or better. One 6-for-5 playoff resulted in Evan Johnson (Grosse Ile, MI), Benjamin Keil (LaGrange, IN), Adam Horn (Milford, OH), Justin Sui (Lake Orion, MI), and Jack Vojtko (Stow, OH) rounding out the qualifying positions. Brian Thompson (Scottsdale, AZ) is the first alternate. Another 3-for-1 playoff ended with local player Davis Gochenouer (Dayton, OH) as the second alternate. Final stages of qualifying will be held in the coming weeks with the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship being played at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on August 11-17. |
