Mentors Matter is a program designed for adults to partner up with kids and provide them with decision making skills to help guide their future. Kids need positive adult role models that exhibit responsible behavior and who are willing to make a positive difference in thier lives.
Why you? We have all said to ourselves, "If I knew then what I know now...". You now have the opportunity to share your unique wisdom with someone who needs to hear it. Your help can make a difference!
Why Mentoring? All kids, regardless of their background, need to develop certain assets to become confident, self-reliant adults. You have the opportunity to reinforce the importance of time management, personal responsibility, work habits and having a positive outlook to help guide a teen's future.
Why golf? Golf provides the mentors an opportunity to teach the teens about more than just the sport, but about life! It provides opportunities to talk about things such as etiquette, interpersonal communication, responsibility, respect and independence.
This golf mentoring program is just one part of a summer-long YMCA Teens in Action program. Youth ages 12-15 participate in a variety of activities throughout the summer, including community service projects, leadership development sessions and more.
What is the program commitment?
1) Mentors Matter Summer "Tee-off" on June 15th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
2) Attend two Mentors Matter Summer program dates, including lunch & golf.
3) Participate in the Celebration and Golf tournament on Thursday, August 5 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
