Mentors Matters Think About Life Influences

Who has had an impact on your life?
That was the question Scott McGohan posed to the Matters Matters group on July 1 at Rollandia Golf Center.
McGohan told the students about the people who have an influence in his life. He talked about his father, and how much he looked up to him. He told the kids about how his Dad taught him what it means to be humble. He didn't understand the concept when he was a young man, but as he got older, he began to appreciate it more. He thanked his Dad, who was among the mentors seated in the crowd, for the impact he had on his life.
McGohan also talked about his mom, twin brother, and fifth grade teacher.
As a boy, McGohan was apathetic about school. This educator challenged McGohan to put forth an effort as a favor to her. McGohan became excited about having his homework done and doing well because he knew his teacher would be happy. After awhile, the teacher told McGohan that he was never doing all of this work for her, but he was actually doing it for him.
McGohan never forgot that lesson. He keeps in touch with that teacher and brought her to speak at Mentors Matters last year.
After grabbing some sub sandwiches provided by Donatos, the kids continued to work on their golf game.
Rollandia Head Professional Ted Cremeans worked with each student in an effort to improve their swings.
Mentors Matters continues on July 6 at Rollandia.
