Mentors Matters kicked off the season this Tuesday, June 14, at Community Golf Course. The kids started off the season with not only learning about golf, but learning about important life skills such as communication, proper handshakes, introductions, and teamwork. After the kids properly met all of the golf volunteers with handshakes, they were split into groups and assigned to a golf volunteer. The two activities for the day included putting games and drills and pitch shots on the driving range, where there were multiple brightly colored targets. It was a great start to the season and everyone enjoyed the fun and engaging activities.
The program hit the links again today at Kittyhawk Golf Center for the second session of the summer. Teamwork was the name of the game today at the course. The boys were split into teams and worked together to finish a short game golf "scavenger hunt". They answered golf related questions and hit various golf shots to finish the hunt, working together along the way. Some shots they had to work on included putting, pitch shots, chipping, and even bunker shots.
Meanwhile, the girls worked on their long game at the driving range and they worked in groups as well. Even on a breezy day, fun was had by all. Next week, the boys will head to the driving range and the girls will get a "whack" at the scavenger hunt.
