Mentors Matters celebrated it's final outing as students in the program particpated in a golf scramble on Aug. 5 at Rollandia.
The kids worked the previous eight weeks to prepare themselves for this moment. Rollandia professional Ted Cremeans worked with the kids every Tuesday and Thursday on the basics of golf. He taught them how to hold a club, make solid contact with the ball, and line up a putt, among other things.
The progress made by kids in the program couldn't be missed as several great shots were seen throughout the day. Maybe more importantly, everyone had a great time!
Following golf, the teens held a ceremony for their mentors to thank them for their support. Some of the students gave a speech, others performed a rap. Without a doubt, Mentors had made an impact in the lives of these youths and the teens wanted to show their appreciation.
Mentor Scott McGohan also wanted to thank the partners that make Mentors Matters possible. Those partners include Donatos Pizza, McGohan Brabender, Merrill Lynch, the YMCA of Greater Dayton, and the United States Golf Association.
Following the presentations, a picnic style lunch was served to the group. Everyone in attendance enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as cookies, brownies, and chips!
Thanks again to everyone who participated in the Mentors Matters program this year! Because of your dedication, it was a great success!! |
